The leaves of Helichrysum petiolare resemble those of H. patulum, except for the distinct petioles on H. petiolare leaves. The blades are about flat, not crinkly as those of H. patulum and H. panduriforme. The leaf-shape is broadly ovate, rounded at base and tip, the margins entire.

Some translucent veining shows against the light through the woolly leaf covering. Leaf dimensions are from 1 cm to 3,5 cm long by 1 cm to 3 cm wide.

A pale, fleshy stem is visible, also white with hairs (Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2015; Manning, 2009; iNaturalist).
