Lapeirousia pyramidalis subsp. pyramidalis near white

The Lapeirousia pyramidalis subsp. pyramidalis flowers are about white in this photo. They were seen near Oudtshoorn in August. These plants reach about 10 cm in height.

The flower buds in various stages of development in the photo display a variety of colours on the outside tepal surfaces. The thin, cylindrical corolla tubes arch slightly; they become up to 4 cm long.

Creamy worm-like anthers are visible on some open flowers; also the thin branched styles. Every style has three branches; each branch forking again halfway up its length (Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2010; Manning, 2007; www.pacificbulbsociety.org).
