Searsia pendulina (SA Tree No. 396), the white karee, is a small to medium-sized tree that typically grows to 4 m, but may reach 9 m in favourable circumstances.
This is a popular garden tree that grows easily and fast. Distinguish this tree from S. leptodictya by the smooth leaf margins and from S. lancea by the shorter leaves and smooth bark. The bark remains light, but flaky in mature trees, whereas S. lancea has dark and rough bark. The berries are green, spherical, turning red and black when dry.
Searsia trees and taaibos shrubs used to have the generic name of Rhus.
