    Satyrium neglectum leaves

    Satyrium neglectum leaves
    Author: Ivan Lätti
    Photographer: Judd Kirkel Welwitch

Satyrium neglectum leaves grow in a separate shoot next to the flower stem. Two, sometimes three often big, lanceolate leaves with acutely pointed tips appear annually in this sterile stem, growing from the tuber. The longest leaf varies from 4 cm to 32 cm in length.

Smaller, pointed leaves occur erectly on the flower stem also. They sheathe the stem, are closely set against it and almost cover it, before they grade into the floral bracts that differ in becoming reflexed (Manning, 2009; www.africanorchids.dk; www.pacificbulbsociety,org).
