In this photo, the Agathosma species nova (lanata) leaves do a good job of hiding their stems from sight. Even the old ones that have turned brown for some reason involving hardship of some kind, persist in position to conceal stem nakedness. On the old stems low down the leaves have probably given up, leaving the stems bare, but this has not been checked.
In-curving in claw-like fashion, the leaves also taper towards their acutely pointed tips and show keels upon some of the outside surfaces; presumably the keels are generally present (Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2010; iSpot).
