    Arctopus echinatus lobed leaves

    Arctopus echinatus lobed leaves
    Author: Ivan Lätti
    Photographer: Thabo Maphisa

The leaves of this female Arctopus echinatus plant show their thick spongy stalks characteristic of the species. The leaf margins of the plant in picture have quite elaborate lobes, on other plants the lobes are often less pronounced.

Female flowers are unstalked or nearly so, produced close to or immediately upon the sandy soil (Manning, 2007; iNaturalist).
