Commicarpus pentandrus leaves

The deciduous leaves of Commicarpus pentandrus are opposite, spaced on stalks from 4 mm to 12 mm long. The leaf pairs are not quite equal.

The leaf-shape is broadly ovate or elliptic, about square, heart-shaped or wedge-shaped at the base and tapering to an obtusely pointed or rounded tip. The slightly fleshy and hairy, dark green blade is folded in at the midrib that is prominent on the lower surface, as are the few lateral veins. The lateral veins ascend on the blades from the midrib and curve up as they approach the margins where they become invisible. The leaf margins are entire. The blades curve down variably to their tips. The leaf is about 4 cm in diameter (Pooley, 1998; Leistner, (Ed.), 2000; Flowering Plants of Africa 63: 98–103 (2013) 99; iNaturalist).
