Helichrysum cymosum subsp. cymosum

Helichrysum cymosum subsp. cymosum, commonly the yellow-tipped strawflower, in Afrikaans the geelsewejaartjie (little yellow seven years) and in Zulu impepho, is a straggling, woolly shrublet that grows to heights from less than 50 cm to 1 m. The single-stemmed, much-branched plant reseeds after fire.

The narrowly ovate to elliptical leaves are silky above and white-felted below. The flat-topped inflorescences of multiple, small flowerheads appear from spring to after midautumn.

This plant grows in the Western Cape, the Eastern Cape and KwaZulu-Natal.

The habitat is sandy slopes, fynbos and scrub. The habitat population is deemed of least concern early in the twenty first century (Euston-Brown and Kruger, 2023; Manning, 2007; Bond and Goldblatt, 1984; iNaturalist; http://redlist.sanbi.org).
