Crossyne flava flower

The pale yellow to yellowish green flowers of Crossyne flava grow on rigid pedicels that are up to 20 cm long. Flavus is a Latin word meaning yellow.

The flower tube is hardly longer than 1 mm. The irregularly star-shaped perianth has pale, yellow-green tepals that are lance-shaped to oblong. They recurve gradually from opening to become strongly reflexed in old flowers, their tips sometimes dull brown as in the photo.

The green, later maroon ovary is obovoid, about 3 mm long. The straight style is up to 8 mm long, ending in a three-branched stigma. The flower is from 9 mm to 14 mm long (Duncan, et al, 2016; Le Roux, et al, 2005; iNaturalist).
