Kalanchoe longiflora is a branching perennial succulent with colourful leaves. It grows to heights of nearly 1 m, occasionally taller and about 1 m in width. The branches spread to form a rounded plant, some spreading or decumbent, others erect.

The species distribution is small, in the centre of KwaZulu-Natal between Muden and Tugela Ferry. The species is rare and vulnerable, the plants occurring on rocky sites and shale slopes in Thukela valley bushveld. Habitat degradation is occurring from proximity to highly populated township areas and agriculture (http://elite-pets.narod.ru; http://plantnet.rbgsyd.nsw.gov.au; www.redlist.sanbi.org).
