Early days for this Calobota cytisoides flowering stem-tip; it is all about purplish brown buds at this stage.

The soft stem zigzags slightly between the alternating, short-stalked buds. The small, hairy bracts below the pedicels are channelled and pointed.

There is some faint green and brown on the corolla parts starting to elongate inside the grasp of the angular sepal lobes. It is the outside of the banner that leads in the appearance of the corolla.

There is a small mucro on some leaflet tips. The soft leaves are hairy, one of the differences between Calobota and Lebeckia, the genus within which this plant was taxonomically positioned for a period (Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2015; Manning, 2007; iNaturalist).
