This young Euryops speciosissimus plant is still all about green, thread-like to crooked, needle-like leaves. The much-branched leaves become up to 20 cm long; also contain resin like the stems.
A sturdy, erect stem has grown next to the rock in picture, or from a crevice in it. It is well positioned for a future as a tall, branched shrub on its solid support base one day. Where a seed germinates constitutes an element of luck.
Every living thing exists due to some luck which came its way. Only a small part of all the potential entities generated and supported up to a point by its kind ever survives. This is beside all the particular prerequisites that might be listed for anything to come to life and continue to hang in there for any length of time.
Chance as far as living is concerned means we’re all very lucky, whether we acknowledge the fact or enjoy our lives… we might as well, given how select we are (Manning, 2009; www.plantzafrica.com).
