Four to six Cyanella lutea subsp. lutea leaves grow in a basal rosette, sheathing the stem. They are lanceolate, tapering to acutely pointed tips. The green blades, sometimes wavy, are faintly longitudinally lined, in picture already fading during October, but lasting until flowering, which is not always the case. Leaves become about 15 cm long.
One smaller, stalkless stem-leaf is visible, ascending close to the brownish stem. A couple of sterile bracts were seen below the flowers on another plant (Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2015; Privett and Lutzeyer, 2010; Manning, 2007; Mustart, 1997; iNaturalist).
