    Paranomus reflexus elongated buds

    Paranomus reflexus elongated buds
    Author: Ivan Lätti
    Photographer: Thabo Maphisa

The elongation of Paranomus reflexus perianths, the slightly club-shaped pale green individual florets in preparation, is quite dramatic in the last stage before the lowermost ones start opening.

Some of the dark-tipped florets are contorted, in the throes of discarding the perianth segments as the styles elongate and free themselves to straighten, tipped with insect-provoking pollen presenters (Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2015; iNaturalist).
