    Phymaspermum acerosum lower stems

    The lower, straight stems of Phymaspermum acerosum emerge in numbers from the underground rootstock, branching near the base and then only high up again. Lower stems become woody and bare, their bark fairly smooth and pale brown.

    Belated side-branches may appear on some old stem-parts exposed to sunlight (Pooley, 1998; Onderstall, 1984; iNaturalist).
