Aspalathus asparagoides subsp. asparagoides new and old flowers

Aspalathus asparagoides subsp. asparagoides new and old flowers
    Author: Ivan Lätti
    Photographer: Thabo Maphisa

The yellow Aspalathus asparagoides subsp. asparagoides flowers resembling pea-flowers in shape, turn rusty red-brown as they age. The calyx has five narrowly pointed, hairy lobes, of similar length and longer than the bell-shaped tube at its base.

Flowering happens from spring to summer. The photo was taken in September (Curtis-Scott, et al, 2020; Bond and Goldblatt, 1984; iNaturalist; JSTOR).
