Agathosma martiana is a single-stemmed, rounded shrub reaching heights from 60 cm to 3 m. The reddish upper branches are covered in soft, short hairiness.

The species distribution is in the Eastern Cape, in the Kouga and Baviaanskloof Mountains and eastwards to near Humansdorp. The photo was taken in the Kouga Valley.

The habitat is lower fynbos slopes. The species is not considered threatened in habitat early in the twenty first century (Bond and Goldblatt, 1984; JSTOR; iNaturalist; http://www.worldfloraonline.org; http://redlist.sanbi.org).
