The flower of Pelargonium tricolor has three white lower petals and an upper pair that may be white, pink or red with a shiny, black or purple and warty patch at its base. The specific name, tricolor, suggests three colours, although there are sometimes only two. The upper petals are slightly larger, the petal shape somewhat obovate. On some plants the lower petal trio occasionally also has dark markings in their lower parts, in the form of longitudinal, central stripes.
The usually three to five anthers are small and dark. The calyx tube (hypanthium) is no longer than 2 mm. Flower diameter is about 2,5 cm. The pedicel and sepals are hairy.
Flowering happens in spring and early summer (Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2015; Moriarty, 1997; Bond and Goldblatt, 1984; iNaturalist; http://pza.sanbi.org).
