Heliophila scoparia flowers

The few, often fragrant flowers of Heliophila scoparia grow in small racemes on short shoots facing up or nearly so. The four narrow, lanceolate to nearly oblong and blunt-tipped sepals are greenish yellow, smaller but thicker than the petals.

The obovoid petals angle up and out around the six stamens and superior ovary. Petal colour is white, pink or purple. Flowering is nearly all year round with a short break early in autumn.

The long, thin fruits are borne erectly. They become from 3 cm to 12 cm long, containing from 10 to 36 seeds (Manning, 2007; Bean and Johns, 2005; Bond and Goldblatt, 1984; iNaturalist).
