Aspalathus spinosa subsp. flavispina is a rigid shrub that grows spine-tipped branches reaching 1,2 m in height. The plant in picture has resprouted after fire.
The subspecies distribution is in the Western Cape. The photo was taken in the Salmonsdam Nature Reserve of CapeNature during November.
The habitat is rocky slopes in fynbos and scrub. The plant is not considered to be threatened in its habitat early in the twenty first century (Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2015; JSTOR; iNaturalist; http://redlist.sanbi.org).
