The Eriocephalus africanus disc florets are five-lobed and purple. The broad ray florets are short and slightly three-lobed.
The exserted anthers are yellow and quite large. There are also some purple styles, split into two branches where the stigmas await pollen deliveries.
Insect dining here is a summer event, mainly available in veld unburned for many years (Curtis-Scott, et al, 2020; Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2015; iNaturalist).
