This Lobelia flower colour may have caused a stir if it hadnt appeared on a Lobelia linearis plant concurrently covered in blue flowers.

When yellow lobelias come to mind, the conclusion is usually Monopsis lutea, a plant also forming part of the Lobeliaceae family, bearing the common name of yellow lobelia. The flower structure of Monopsis differs from that of Lobelia.

The L. linearis plant that produced this flower was earlier known as L. spartioides growing in the eastern part of the L. linearis distribution range, the Little Karoo and the Langkloof. The photo was taken on the Minwater farm near Oudtshoorn (Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2015; Manning, 2007; Bond and Goldblatt, 1984; iNaturalist).
