    Berzelia abrotanoides hiding its legs
    Author: Ivan Lätti
    Photographer: MC Botha

Berzelia abrotanoides does not always show its red legs, the stalks of its flowerheads that brought the plant the redlegs common name. The globular heads in picture are not flowering at present.

The specific name, abrotanoides, refers to the plant’s resemblance to members of a European plant genus, Abrotonum or southernwood.

The photo was taken at Varksnoet east of Hermanus (Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2015; Manning, 2007; Andrew, 2017; iNaturalist).
