The flowers of Pentameris eriostoma grow in open panicles of about 20 cm long. The straw- and cream-coloured spikelets on thin pedicels are about 120 mm long. Each spikelet contains two bisexual florets. The five lemmas or lower, chaff-like bracts around each floret end in awns.

The generic name, Pentameris, is formed from two Latin words, penta meaning five and meris meaning part, referring to these five awns around each floret (Euston-Brown and Kruger, 2023; Curtis-Scott, et al, 2020; Bond and Goldblatt, 1984; iNaturalist; https://www.selinawamucii.com; https://www.worldfloraonline.org).
