This spike of green Holothrix fruits seen in the Nuwekloof Pass is thought to be Holothrix villosa. The flowering stem is dark purple in its lower parts. Two annual leaves are present, although no longer in mint condition.

The capsules are developed from inferior ovaries. The fruits are about oblong, held up among departing brown floral debris, photographed during October. A capsule has six valves that open to release numerous spindle-shaped seeds (Manning, 2007; Leistner, (Ed.), 2000; iNaturalist).
