Aloe kraussii, commonly the broad-leaved yellow grass aloe, is a succulent plant grown from spindle-shaped, fleshy roots. The stem is short or absent. The plant grows solitary or in small groups, reaching heights around 60 cm when in flower.

The species distribution of this KwaZulu-Natal endemic is central to coastal in the province.

The habitat is midlands grassland on rocky slopes where the soil is sandy, also in coastal scrub; not at elevations beyond 1000 m and not in extreme cold. The habitat population is considered threatened early in the twenty first century, due to infestation by alien vegetation, sugarcane farming and forestry plantations; disappeared from some known earlier sites.

The young inflorescences are sometimes eaten by people (Craib, 2005; Pooley, 1998; Reynolds, 1974; iNaturalist; http://redlist.sanbi.org).
