The stiff stem leaves of Brachycorythis ovata subsp. ovata overlap, usually decreasing in size and density up the stem as they become bracts among the flowers.

The stalkless leaves are narrowly ovate to lanceolate in shape, tapering to acutely pointed tips. Leaf colour is dark green to dull green, sometimes with a little dark maroon near the tips. The hairless blades are convex on top, variably wavy, particularly along the entire margins with tips that may curve in slightly (Pooley, 1998; iNaturalist).
