    Author: Ivan Lätti
    Photographer: Judd Kirkel Welwitch

Lower branches of an old Jamesbrittenia lesutica shrub are woody and bare. They steadfastly support the green and flowery upper parts where the visible productive and reproductive action may still take place for some years.

These bare stems make it through winter cold that includes snow. The land is rocky grassland slopes at high elevations, where established plant species have proven themselves in challenging ecological niches (iNaturalist).
