    Erythrina afra leaf
    Author: Ivan Lätti
    Photographer: Francelle van Zyl

The terminal leaflet of an Erythrina afra leaf is slightly larger than the lateral pair. The leaflets taper to their tips, also at the base with slight attenuation near the petiolules.

There are paired lateral veins from the leaflet midribs near the base of each blade, as well as two or three pairs of veins higher up. The veins curve in slightly and branch a little. The visible venation is creamy, paler than the glossy green blades and slightly prominent on the lower surfaces.

The petiolules in picture are channelled on top but no prickles are present on blades or stalks. The paired glands known as stipels are visible at the petiolule bases (Coates Palgrave, 2002; Van Wyk and Van Wyk, 1997; Pooley, 1993; iNaturalist).
