    Author: Ivan Lätti
    Photographer: Francelle van Zyl

The still closed Lachenalia bulbifera buds in the foreground are more purple than the lower perianth parts. The three outer tepal tips of each bud join neatly, tightly and flat-topped, the upper one a bit forward and appearing slightly wider than its equal share of the 120˚ of the tip space they cover jointly.

At the top of the raceme some weird bud tip colour variations are present, including brown and green (Manning, 2007; Manning and Goldblatt, 1996; iNaturalist).
