    Lampranthus sociorum going full tilt
    Author: Ivan Lätti

At bloomtime Lampranthus sociorum brings cheer to its surroundings. The vividly pink purple of the petals is fine-textured, suggesting translucence... not quite.

The floral abundance and symmetry are sure to attract insects. Mimicking spring daisies that are also prevalent this time of year in the region, they toy with pollinator instincts and appreciation (Smith, et al, 1998; Bond and Goldblatt, 1984; iNaturalist).
