Seen from the outside, the Ixia viridiflora flowers also show the purple black eye so conspicuous on the inside, but here also some yellowish green at the base of the outer tepals.

The nearly oblong, pointed tepals fold in slightly along their midribs, some of the tepal tips notched. Numerous faint, parallel veins ascend visibly to the margins.

The wiry green stem or axis curves between flowers. The bracts at the pedicel bases, and some extras in picture where no flowers are positioned, are translucent and papery, about ovate in shape (iNaturalist; http://pza.sanbi.org).
