The fame of Erica cerinthoides as an erica among ericas relates to the dense cluster of bright red, tubular flowers highlighting a sea of green foliage in fynbos surroundings.

A reason, sometimes an excuse, must be found for adding yet another photo of the same plant on this Site. This time it is the staggered, as well as concurrent opening of individual flowers in the same inflorescence. Many are at their best now, positioned at the upper end of the cluster on show. Others are on their way out as announced by the longitudinal wrinkles on their tubular corollas. There is also enhanced darkening in the red as they age. White beardedness on the tubes is unequal between the older and younger in picture.

Perception is an often neglected gift. Nature delivers abundantly in yet more messages to those that keep reading them.
