The honey flower, as Melianthus comosus is also known, is a popular garden plant. In Greek meli means honey and anthos is flower, matching the common name. The flowers offer hospitality to many diverse pollinators, pleasing the gardener well.

Some of the appeal of the plant comes from low maintenance requirements, but more is surely due to these attractive flowers, fruits and foliage. Not much watering is required. It is best pruned back after flowering, making for pretty new growth in the following season.
