Senecio macroglossus flower

Senecio macroglossus, the flowering ivy, is a climber with pale yellow or cream coloured daisy flowerheads. It grows along the Eastern Cape and KwaZulu-Natal coasts in forest margins. Flowers appear in autumn and winter. They are large and usually solitary. The leaves are stalked, arrow-shaped and fleshy. S. macroglossoides is a similar species, growing inland with heart-shaped, toothed leaves.

Senecio comes from the Latin senex meaning old man, referring to the white hairy pappus attached to the seeds that are dispersed by wind, leaving a bald base (Manning, 2009; www.plantzafrica.com).
