Cissus quadrangularis node with leaf and tendril

In this photo the node on the young Cissus quadrangularis stem has both leaf and tendril growing from it. The two emerge from opposite sides of the stem.
The sides of the stem surface between the four stem ridges are concave or sunken, even with a jaunty natural twist in the growth of one internode. The stem ridges are slightly translucent here and straight, unlike on the internodes at the stem tips (Wikipedia).
