Albuca virens subsp. virens, sometimes commonly called the common green tamarak, in Afrikaans the bosui (bush onion), and previously scientifically Ornithogalum tenuifolium, is a deciduous, bulbous perennial, regrowing every spring to heights from 30 cm to 60 cm.
The species has a large distribution, ranging from the Eastern Cape to KwaZulu-Natal, Mpumalanga and Limpopo, as well as more westerly in Gauteng, the Free State and the Northern Cape. The photo was taken on the Magaliesberg in November.
The habitat is varied scrubland and grassland. The habitat population is deemed of least concern early in the twenty first century (Lowrey and Wright, 1987; iNaturalist; http://redlist.sanbi.org).
