    Hermannia hyssopifolia flower

    Hermannia hyssopifolia flower
    Author: Ivan Lätti
    Photographer: Judd Kirkel Welwitch

The swollen, balloon-like calyx of the Hermannia hyssopifolia flower is clearly displayed in this close-up. The hairy surface with its creamy lemon-green colouring, as well as the occasional maroon patch can be observed.

So can the anticlockwise overlap pattern of the contrastingly hairless petals around the tiny flower mouth be seen. The petals have smooth, rounded margins and at this close range show rough surfaces (www.plantzafrica.com).
