Pelargonium myrrhifolium var. myrrhifolium flower

The flowers of Pelargonium myrrhifolium var. myrrhifolium grow solitary or in clusters of up to five flowers on thin, erect stalks. Flower colour is white, nearly white or pale pink in this variety. White, pink in more shades and purplish forms occur in P. myrrhifolium var. coriandrifolium. There has been some unconfirmed mention of a third variety, viz. var. fruticosum, not upheld by SANBI.

The larger, rounded upper petal pair of a var. myrrhifolium flower has thin, branching maroon lines from the base to the centre; the two narrow lower petals are smaller and plain. Small, hairy and narrow, acutely pointed, purple sepals can be seen behind the petals. The flower size ranges from 2 cm to 2,5 cm.

Flowering commences in midwinter and continues through summer, although some flowers may be seen throughout the year (Manning, 2009; Bond and Goldblatt, 1984; iNaturalist; www2.arnes.si).
