    Astridia longifolia blooming among granite

    Astridia longifolia grows to 50 cm tall, sometimes only half of that. The plant branches much to become a dense shrublet.

    The reddish flower colour seen here is common, while a yellowish cream form also occurs in the Helskloof area of the Richtersveld where the plant can be observed in habitat (Williamson, 2010; Smith, et al, 1998; iSpot).
