Anacampseros rufescens

This Anacampseros rufescens plant has a lax rosette of succulent, obovate leaves with variably rounded or angular margins. The leaves are never seen high above the ground. The long, white, curly hairs that grow from the stem among the leaf bases look as if the wind had blown them in and they might not quite belong here. Various kinds of hairiness are common among the about 18 South African Anacampseros species.

Older plants develop small caudices, storing resources beyond what is stockpiled in the succulent leaves. Pink or purple flowers appear in spring on erect, fleshy stems (Wikipedia; iSpot; www.cactiguide.com).
