    Lachenalia trichophylla flowering

    Lachenalia trichophylla flowering
    Author: Ivan Lätti
    Photographer: Judd Kirkel Welwitch

The flowers of Lachenalia trichophylla grow on a sturdy, dark purple stalk in a short raceme. Plants usually bear about 20 flowers.

The buds are initially pinkish purple, becoming white when they are ready to open and pale yellow once they’re fully open. The outer tepals are shorter than the inner three and have dull green bulging patches near their tips (iSpot; JSTOR; www.pacificbulbsociety.org).
