Cotyledon tomentosa subsp. tomentosa mixed features

This Cotyledon tomentosa subsp. tomentosa plant has the row of tiny teeth at the tips of the erect leaves as expected. These tips gave the subspecies the common name of bear paw. The leaf shape is, however, longer and almost terete or cylindrical as normally found on C. tomentosa subsp. ladismithiensis, also depicted in this Album and unlike those of subsp. tomentosa. Also note the flower similarity to C. tomentosa subsp. ladismithiensis.

This plant has darkened older leaves, the small, young ones being fresh green. The white woolliness covering the leaves of both subspecies is clear to see on old and young leaves here. The plant is one of the intermediate forms still linking the two subspecies (www.crassulaceae.net).
