Bolusanthus speciosus is here gradually losing its leaves in the Sabie area during July. Deciduous for a short period in springtime, winter leaves are still present, benefiting browser mammals of the woodlands in the north-eastern region of southern Africa. This is a time when many bushveld trees are already bare in the cold, lean season.

The erect growth habit is typical of the tree (Coates Palgrave, 2002).
