This densely flowered spike of Brachycorythis ovata subsp. ovata was photographed near Qachas Nek in the south-east of Lesotho. It may carry more than 50 individual flowers that are violet and cream in colour and mildly scented.

Lanceolate bracts with prominent midribs are visible among the flowers. The hoods of the flowers are white on the inside.
