    Asparagus rubicundus at Salmondsdam
    Author: Ivan Lätti
    Photographer: Thabo Maphisa

The Asparagus rubicundus plant captured in this midsummer photo is mature with many stems. It grows in a dry, exposed position on a slope in the Salmondsdam Reserve.

The colour of the plant shows seasonal stress, its height less than what old plants in sheltered positions with ample moisture would achieve. But life is for living the given opportunities (Manning, 2007; Bean and Johns, 2005; iSpot).
