Berkheya cuneata is a shrublet endemic to an area extending slightly beyond the boundaries of the Little Karoo. It occurs also south of the coastal mountains in the southern Cape near George.

The plant is palatable to the local game and livestock found here. Where it is abundant the veld is considered to be well managed.

The photo was taken in October on the Rooiberg south of Calitzdorp (Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2010; Manning, 2009).
