    Asparagus capensis at Oudtshoorn

    Asparagus capensis shrubs are common on the outskirts of Oudtshoorn where this one was seen in August. A few ripe fruits are scattered among the false leaves.

    Some bare stems as well as yellowing of the cladodes tell about harsh conditions or at least a hard time. The primary rainy season is nearing its end at the time of the photo and the plant is already in some trouble (Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2010; Manning, 2007; iSpot).
