Disa uncinata is a slender perennial that grows from a tuber to heights between 10 cm and 50 cm. The flower stem is often bent or curving. The plant grows three to six leaves that are narrowly lance-shaped and often curve in a sickle-shape.

The distribution of the plant in the Western Cape and Eastern Cape ranges from the Cederberg and Table Mountain to Humansdorp. It is one of the more widespread Cape disas growing at elevations between 100 m and 1850 m.

The species is found in shady, damp spots on a rock-face or among mosses where water drips much of the year in sandy or clayey soil. It also grows in peaty soil among grasses bordering watercourses.

Having a comparatively large distribution, this species is not considered threatened in habitat early in the twenty first century (Liltved and Johnson, 2012; iSpot; www.redlist.sanbi.org).
