Cotyledon papillaris yellow-green leaves

These yellow-green leaves covered in the finest of short-hair coats belong to Cotyledon papillaris, in Afrikaans known as the kruipplakkie (little creeping plaque) or ranknenta (creeper nenta).

Often greyish blue and hairless, quite unlike the ones shown here, leaf appearance is variable. The tip of the apical red rim protrudes; some glowing yellow colouring shows through just below. In this specimen the thickly succulent leaves bulge towards their tips, the inner surfaces flatter than the outer ones. The leaves are often more oblong, longer and straight.

The erect leaves grow from slender, sprawling stems that often root at their nodes (Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2010; Bond and Goldblatt, 1984).
